The Craftsman scheme contains the core cover of Public and Products Liability with the option to select further covers to protect your business.

This summary provides an overview of the key covers, features and exceptions available within the policy. If you have selected any of these covers they will be itemised in your schedule and full cover details will be set out in your policy document.

Core covers

Public and Products Liability

Protection against your legal liability for bodily injury to third parties and damage to their property, including obstruction, trespass, nuisance, interference, wrongful arrest and eviction. Cover includes:
  • Liability for loss of or damage to premises hired or rented to you for the purpose of your business
  • Legal costs and expenses in defending prosecutions under relevant health and safety legislation, Consumer Protection Act 1987 and Food Safety Act 1990
  • Court attendance costs

  • Cover for acts of terrorism is limited to £2,000,000 for any one event
  • Loss or damage to property in your custody of control or to products supplied
  • Liability arising out of products supplied in the knowledge that they could affect the navigation, propulsion or safety of any aircraft or other aerial device
  • Pollution or contamination
  • Work in or on or travel to or from or within products supplied to any offshore installation or support vessel
  • Liquidated damages, penalty clauses, fines or punitive damages
  • Exposure to, inhalation of, fears of the consequences of exposure to/inhalation of, costs incurred in repairing, removing, replacing, recalling, rectifying, reinstating, or managing any property arising out of the presence of Asbestos.

Employers' Liability

Protection against your legal liabilities for bodily injury to your employees up to a limit of indemnity of £10,000,000 including costs and expenses Cover includes:
  • Legal costs and expenses in defending prosecutions under all relevant health and safety legislation
  • Worldwide cover for employees normally resident in the UK who are temporarily working overseas.

  • Cover for acts of terrorism is limited to £5,000,000 per event
  • Liability in respect of liquidated damages, penalty clauses and fines
  • Work in or on or travel to or from any offshore installation or support vessel
  • Bodily injury to an Employee carried in or on, entering or alighting a vehicle or where Road Traffic Act legislation applies.
All Risks Accidental loss or damage to:

  • Stock (anywhere in the UK, whilst in transit and overnight at shows etc.)
  • Automatic cover up to £250.00 for display stands, tables. Chairs and lighting whilst at shows etc.
  • Machinery and Equipment whilst at the insured's premises/workshop.
Cover can be extended to include terrorism cover.

  • Wear and tear, gradual deterioration, faulty or defective design, materials or workmanship
  • Mechanical or electrical breakdown or derangement
  • From unattended vehicles if all doors and windows have not been locked
  • Damage resulting from undergoing any process involving the application of heat
  • Loss or damage caused by insufficiency or unsuitability of packaging or preparation of goods.
  • Damage to moveable property in the open by wind, rain, hail, sleet, snow, flood, dust
  • The first part of any claim (your excess).
Loss of Exhibition Cover

  • Loss of Exhibition Expenses resulting from abandonment, postponement or curtailment of craft show, fair, or fete: limit £1500

  • Wear, tear and depreciation
  • Theft by employees of the Insured
  • Mechanical or electrical breakdown or any process of demonstration

Duration of policy

The policy will remain in force for 12 months from date of commencement, or as otherwise shown on your policy schedule.

Right of cancellation

If you are an individual/sole trader (including a partnership in England and Wales) buying a policy which provides cover for you in both a private and business capacity, you have the right to cancel your policy during a period of 14 days either from the day of purchase of the contract or the day on which you receive your policy documentation, whichever is the later. A full explanation of the cancellation rights can be found in the policy documentation.

Our service to you

In the first instance, please contact your insurance adviser. Full details of our complaints procedure will be set out in your policy document.

We are covered by the Financial Ombudsman Service. If you have complained to us and we have been unable to resolve your complaint, you may then be entitled to refer it to this independent body. The Financial Ombudsman Service is available to individuals, certain small businesses, charities and trusts.

Financial Services Compensation Scheme

We are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). If we cannot meet our obligations you may be entitled to compensation from the scheme, depending on the type of insurance and circumstances of any claim.
